Much Love Monday

Well... I'm NOT loving the rain and the crappy weather, I'll tell you that! Bipolar weather even! Throughout the day we're seeing rain then sunny hot weather than back to cloudy and chilly. make up your freakin mind!!!

Ok, now that we're over with that, let's get back to the subject at hand: Much Love Monday.
I love, love, love this picture!
Source
How cute is this? And, on that note, I'm LOVING this little video, you've probably seen it, it's such a big worldwide hit! I've watched it a couple dozen times. This is what love is all about!

so tell me, what are YOU loving today?

The current status of things :: O estato actual das coisas

Hello.

Just to let you know the status of my current project. I guess you could say this is the same quilt, just updated to fit the decor of my room, which I'm slowly turning into a cloud. That means baby blues and whites :)

I love it! Now this is the stage I usually lose momentum. The chosing of the backing and the quilting. Let's see how it goes this time!
Adoro! Agora nesta fase é quando perco o andamento.

Much Love Monday

Hello!

It's much love monday today and I actually remembered this time! Also, for the first time I'm having a hard time choosing between two photos, so I guess I'll just post them both!

That's right! I'm bringing out my murano glass collection! :D It's full of hearts and all sorts of shapes in translucid glass and it is an amazing sight on such a sunny bright day as today. Even Mushi agreed to model it!

Today I'm loving that I'm not just hopeful life knows where it is taking me, I'm actually sure of it! And that I am, at the same time, quite active in that process, does it make any sense? Last week was amazingly fullfiling, I really stepped out of my comfort zone on so many levels, so what's there not to love?

So tell us, what are YOU loving today?

Finished! Woohoo!! Can I go again?? :D ::: Acabado Woohoo!!! Posso repetir??

Hello.
I've just realised I missed Much Love Monday...again! Grrrr...
I was just so determined to finish the quilt, I completely forgot.

As you can see by previous posts, all this baby was missing was the binding. I had originally decided to make a binding that had a lot of the fabrics used on the squares. However, with such a colorful backing I was afraid it wouldn't work. However, seing as I had no better idea, I went with the original plan and this was what I got:

It was quite a thin binding, I was trying to play it a bit safe...well safer anyway!
We worked and worked until we were too tired to continue...

... but we were able to finish it and we think it looked great! And Nico says it's really soft and cuddly :)

I'll upload more photos of the finished project soon.

Vou colocar aqui mais fotos do resultado final brevemente.

Well, I'm Miss Chatty today, I guess the blogging bug is back with a vengance!
Yesterday I spent the night watching The Fabulous Destiny of Amelie Poulain. I haven't watched it for years, yet it is one of my favorite movies of all times.

It's like it was based on my life, on my thoughts. Is it a girl thing or is it just me? Her schemes, the way she keeps imagining in her mind how she wishes a certain situation to unfold, how she day dreams and how she feels responsible for making the World a better place and to make everybody happy and solve all their problems. How resourceful and creative she is for others and, at the same time, quite reserved and protected when it comes to her life and feelings.

It reminded me of how it's not like me to feel defeated and scared by what lies ahead. I am a dreamer, I can't help it and I have been basically wasting my time, all the free time I have now and that I had been waiting for so long to have, being scared instead of using that time to do things that make me feel happy, to be with people I haven't been with due to my work schedules, to be up until morning if I wish to, you get the picture...

So thank you Amelie, I'll try to keep that in mind! How I really love that movie.. :)

P.S. - Oh and the cat, let's not forget her lovely cat :)

Ontem passei a noite a ver a Amelie Poulain.

P.S - E o gato, não esqueçamos o lindo gato dela :)

Sunday's work ::: O trabalho de Domingo

Hello.
I had decided that I wouldn't work on my quilt today, something about learning how to wait and be less impatient or something like that, can't really remember... :)

I finished basting it and quilted it. Always under strict supervision, of course!

Sempre devidamente supervisionada!

That looks tasty! (Isso parece saboroso)

Can I have some? (Posso provar?)

How long till we finish? I want to take my nap. (Quanto tempo falta para acabar? quero fazer a minha sesta.)

As usual I kept the quilting really simple, I quilted around each of the outer squares and then quilted a rectangle around the 6 squares in the center of the quilt. When I choose this sort of quilting, I'm mainly looking to acent the diferent parts of the quilt, but always trying to keep the main focus on the lovely fabrics. Also, of course, to bind the quilt and make it last longer, of course :)

you can see here the quilting on the outer squares (podemos ver aqui o quilting dos quadrados exteriores)
As for the backing, I must say I've decided to do my boldest backing ever! I love these fabrics, as you know, and in fact, the top of the quilt is divided into blue and green squares and red, pink and orange squares. These two Ikea fabrics actually have all o these colors. Also, they are as summer-y as it gets! I worry that you can see the backing through the top, but so far I haven't noticed it yet.

Now, to decide the right binding for this slightly schizofrenic color scheme I've picked :)

Além disso, lembram-me tanto o Verão!

P.S. - No pets were harmed during the photographing of this post :) Nor after!

My cat is telling me... ::: A minha gata está a dizer-me...

... I have to stop working for today and pay attention to her, so the basting will have to wait until tomorrow! This is what she does to let me know enough is enough :)

We've been having an amazingly hot and sunny weather over here, I hope you're having great days and pleasent evenings as well where you are. See you all tomorrow!

The Bilingual factor ::: O Factor Bilingue

I've been meaning to mention that I know I've neglected the portuguese speaking readers, I'm so sorry for that. As you know it's been a hard couple of, well, months actually and somedays blogging was hard for me.
Surprisingly the portuguese text was actually much harder for me than the english, since all the texts I think about usually come to me in english, so I'm really translating to portuguese instead of the other way around, even though I'm portuguese.

Anyway, I just wanted to say sorry and that I'm going to try and bring it back starting with this post.
Overall, I'd just like to thank all of you, mt e-friends from across the Globe. The Internet really is an amazing thing!

Completely over the Top!!

It's been, as predicted, a very productive afternoon.
The real project is so much lovelier than the photos show, I wish you could see it! :)

This is the main focus of the quilt, but it was too short for what I needed. However I felt that if I added more squares it would just look too busy, and as you know, I'm in a lighter, whiter, summer-y mood lately :) So I added a larger white frame and thus concluded the top of my quilt:

Voilá!
I just know I'll end up picking a very colorfull binding, so I'm happy with the bigger frame.  I also have no idea how to quilt this, but I'm loving the experience. I wish I could do this quilt in every possible combination! :)

I hope you like it too! Have a great weekend!

Moving fast and steady!

Hello.

One more completed step. The first strips have been sewn and it is looking something like this:

Yes, I know this "hanger" has a different purpose, but untill I finish this quilt, this is the most action this treadmill is getting from me! :)

This is the stage I start going to bed thinking about waking up early to sew and get to the next step, so I should get all the centre of the quilt together in a couple of hours! I'm so excited, I'm loving this quilt! So far my second favorite quilt ever but such a small margin! :)

Next Step.

Hello.

I must admit that when I saw the first recatangles I had done for this quilt, I liked them so much part of me considered to just leave it like that and change the project.
However, another part of me, a slightly bolder and maybe less inteligent part, decided to keep going.

I already have all the squares and they look great, it's been such a fun quilt to make! I tried to photograph them to the best of my abilities, but, as some of you know, I have really anoying cats (still love them to death though), who seem to be able to sense or smell when fabric is being lined up, or sometimes when fabric so much as touches the floor... Also, I somehow managed to misplace my camera, so mobile had to do. This was the result of my photographic documentation of this step...

She kept guard for about two hours before I decided to give up..
Now to unite the blocks into one big happy colorfull family! I promise better pictures of the final result :)

Seriously Blogspot it's about time!!

...And we're back online! :D News to follow. Stay tuned!

Step by step...

Hello.

Here's an update on my current project.

I've already shown you stage one:

Stage two: sewn stripes.

I'm still in love with my fabrics :)

I had to be really quick and stealth while taking these pictures because THIS ALWAYS happens when there's fabric on the floor:

Stage 3, cutting the fabric all over again! 144 to be precise :)
The hot colors

The cold pallet

Ready for the next stage and a new day :)

I'm in a scrappy mood...

I guess I should have seen it coming... Messing with scraps will only get you... more scraps!

Much Love Monday

Hello!

It's time for a brand new Much love Monday! Time sure does fly!
It's been such an inspiring week, I love how your outlook on life can change in seconds, with the right inspiration, and, of course, some will to recognize it!

What am I loving today?
I'm loving the unknown, filled with all possibilities and new experiences.
I'm loving the sun, it's back and hopefully here to stay
I'm loving my cats and my loved ones (and very grateful for them as well)
I'm loving that I'm back sewing and with so many ideas bubling in my brain. Too many sometimes, but I've learn to accept it ;)

Overall, I am a very lucky person and I just wished I could keep that in mind more often and be less of a drama queen!

What are you loving today? Stop by Anna's and let us know!

Awwww SCRAP!

I took some time to arrange my scraps and discovered I have too many. Knowing me, I'll never get to use them unless I purposefully decide to do so. And so I have!

Just a small sample

I'm making a quilt out of my larger scraps (still not quite ready to take on the little pieces) to be auctioned by one of the Animal Wellfare Associations I volunteer with. I've already cut the stripes, I think I'm making a 9 patch quilt, but only time will tell, I change my mind so often! :)

I expect to further explore this scrappy idea of mine during the next few days, so stay tuned!! :)

Latest Update on my chaotic work process

Hello!

I've been meaning to post to show you what I've been doing but I wanted it to be a suprise for my sister, one of the recipients, so I couldn't really. Also I tend to put off blogging, even though I keep gathering pictures, so I'll try to make some sense out of all the chaos!

I had two quilts to finish, as I've mentioned before. I decided to buy very similar fabrics for both quilts and use the same binding. So I've been working on both and now that it's all finished and delivered, I'm sharing them with you. Here is the photographic coverage:

the binding

the backing for the retro quilt (My sister's quilt)

I felt like I was sewing a wedding dress!

The backing for the summer quilt (mommy's quilt)

the final outcome of the Summer quilt
Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures of the finished retro quilt. I've asked my sister to take some, so here's hoping I'll get them any time soon.
The quilting method was the same on both quilts: straigh lines on the white stripes, quite subtle, I've discovered I alway prefer the fabrics and the patterns to be the wow factor instead of the quilting, maybe because I don't feel that confident on my quilting skills yet.

I've been asked to make some pillows to go with the quilts, but I kinda dislike making pillows and I've already got this new project so I think they'll have to wait a while :)

I absolutely love this Summer quilt. It's very light and airy, it somehow reminds me of thoe white villages in the Greek Islands, don't know why, wishfull thinking I suppose ;)
I can't wait for full-on Summer, sunny days will really make this quilt shine!

Much Love Monday...Barely!

Every day of the week I'm thinking I want to join much love monday, can't forget to join... However, I always do!! Forget, that is...Well, not this week, even though it's 00:48 I haven't gone to bed, so it's oficially Monday!! Besides, it's still Monday in a lot of places in this World of ours, so it counts!

I brought this picture back because it was our Mother's Day gift for my mom. I've kept it hidden for some months now, can't believe I managed to do that, I suck at keeping good secrets!

And now for the fun part, what am I loving today? Actually today was a really good day! I feel energised and strong, so I'm loving that of course!

I love my loved ones of course, my cats and the promise of what lies ahead :)

What are YOU loving today?

Multitasking

Hello.

These past few days have been really productive (I guess Laura was right, all it took was a bit or rain for me to focus).
Speaking of which...let me tell you, the weather was more than bad, it was freakishly bad! We had hale storms in Lisbon like we've never seen, even during Winter... and we've been having a really hot Spring, I've even been to the beach a couple of times. It was literally one day 28º, the next, this:
Lisbon

The most beautiful soccer stadium in Portugal :P
And, of course, once it all melted, it was chaos...

But back to the subject at hand, I've been working on two projects at the same time. Well, sort of, it was more like I started a second project before I finished the first. The idea was to complete both tops and now move on to finish them together, maybe even with the same fabric for the backing.

The first one I've shown you a couple of posts back, so here is the second quilt. It's a Summer quilt for my mom's bed.

I haven't really ironed it properly yet, so sorry about that. Here is the finished result. Well, finished result and then some. It was actually too big, both to the sides and on top...

Like, this much more... :) So I decided to cut the extra and maybe use it for the pillows or something...

And there you have it, both my projects, ready to be finished.
I'm really excited to see the end result.
Leave it to sewing to get me in a good mood.

Oh, and here in Portugal today is Mother's Day so, even if your not in or from Portugal, a big hug and congrats to all the mothers out there! Every day is a good day to salute you!
