3 Wise Men::: 3 Reis Magos

Hello.

Is today a special day in your country? In Portugal we celebrate what we call literally the Kings' Day. This because today was the day the Three Wise Men first met the Baby Jesus. In Spain today is the day they open their Christmas presents, which makes sense because the Wise Men brought the gifts and arrived on the 6th. So I've been researching the way countries celebrate this day, but couldn't really find that much information. What do you call it in your country?
Also, you eat the Bolo Rei (literally the King Cake). I don't like it, personally, but I love the way it looks :) This cake carries a small trinket and a fava bean. Whoever gets a trinket has good luck for the year and whoever gets the fava bean has to buy the Bolo Rei next year. Well, that was the tradition, until it was determined that is was dangerous to your health to have a trinket and a fava bean inside a cake and I think they stopped doing it.

Hoje é um dia especial no vosso País? Em Portugal, celebramos o que chamamos o Dia dos Reis. Isto porque hoje é o dia em que os 3 Reis Magos conheceram o menino Jesus. Em Espanha, hoje é o dia em que se abrem os presentes de Natal, o que faz sentido, já que foram os 3 Reis Magos que trouxeram os presentes e chegaram no dia 6. Portanto, passei o dia a pesquisar a forma como os vários países celebram este dia, mas não consegui encontrar muita informação. Qual o nome deste dia no vosso País?
Para além disso, comemos o Bolo Rei. Eu pessoalmente não gosto, mas adoro o aspecto :) Este bolo traz um brinde e uma fava. Quem ficar com o brinde terá sorte no novo ano, quem ficar com a fava terá que comprar o Bolo Rei para o ano. Bem, esta era a tradição, mas depois concluiu-se que era perigoso ter um brinde e uma fava escondidos num bolo e penso que já não os fazem assim.

Also today is traditionally the day the Holidays end and the Christmas decorations are taken down. We remembered there was one place that we didn't visit to see this year's Christmas' lights, so we drove down there. Except there was this huge storm, there was torrential rain, wind gusts, lightning storms, fog, you name it, we got it!
But I must confess I love to walk in the rain, specially when it's pouring like that and you have no place to go after, it's good for the soul!
So, overall, it was a great day! I'm just sorry the Holidays are over.



Tradicionalmente, hoje é o dia em que as festas acabam e se retiram as decorações de Natal. Lembrámo-nos que havia um sítio que não visitámos para ver as luzes de Natal deste ano, então decidimos ir até lá. Só que estava uma grande tempestade, chuva torrencial, ventos fortes, nevoeiro, tudo!
Mas devo confessar que adoro andar à chuva, especialmente quando é torrencial como a de hoje e quando não temos nenhum sítio onde ir a seguir, faz bem à alma!!
No geral, foi um óptimo dia, só tenho pena que as festas tenham acabado.
