Doggy Beds & Friends

Hello.
After the beds I made for those dogs who needed it, I kind of got hooked on it! A have a dog friend who'd been receiving treatment for a tumour and I figured he needed all the comfort he could get so I bought some colorful Ikea fabric and made this bed, it's the biggest I've done, because he is a big doggy.

And look how happy him and his cute little sisters are :D This image is EXACTLY what I imagine when I'm making the beds. Makes my day!

Update on the stary quilt

Here's an update on my current project. I have now just about completed the top.

It's a bit whiter than I usually go for, but the only requirement for this quilt was to incorporate the wavy fabric, that matches the curtains.

Also, I seem to keep forgeting I still need to complete the eye of the stars, which will be a hexagon, you know how much I LOVE hexies! Originally I was thinking of making the hexies white, but now I'm not so sure.

What do you think? will the colour of the hexgons make much of a difference? Will it tone down the whiteness? hehehe.

Sewing for a good cause

I've told you before how passionate I am about the animal welfare cause and  how hard it is to protect animals in a country where the law sees them as lifeless objects.

I do as much as I can, though not nearly enough as I wished. In the process I've met some really incredible and dedicated people. One of those people is trying to help an elderly couple that has taken on a huge amount of both cats and dogs that don't really live as well as they should and she is determined to change that.

For a while now I've been thinking of the best way to use my sewing machine to their benefit. As everything in my life, a solution showed itself in due time. First I noticed some Ikea fabric on sale, as I work in the fabric section and as I love fabric, I tend to notice these things. Secondly, I sometimes buy sinthetic quilt batting that has a really great price and that can be really warm. So I put the two together, and this is what I got, for an incredible price, about an euro each!!!

My cats clearly aprove, Nico has been sleeping on it for hours now. I hope their new owners will agree :)

20 little stars ready to be sewn together :)

Hello.

Today was my day off so I put it to good use. I've finished all 20 stars. It was actually easier than I imagined it would be. Now for the hard part: to add the curtain fabric, as requested. Let's see if it works.
Again, sorry for the bad picture quality, it's already dark, but I couldn't wati to show you how they are looking :)

New Year, new pattern...

Hello!

I can't tell you how excited I am! It's been ages since I've tried new patterns, which is so typical of me: to discover something new I love to do and do it over and over again.

2011 was all about two patterns, so now it's time to introduce a new one. My amazing best friend Carla gave me Cath Kidston's Patch! book and I've been drooling over it for some time now (since Christmas, when I got it). There are some amazing projects, a lot of them on my to do list, but turns out I have an order for a beadspread for a family member, so I decided it was the perfect opportunity to try the Star Throw pattern.



Isn't it lovely? It's for a Summer house, no less, so I think it will look perfect :)
I've made some changes, as I've decided to mix other fabrics, as I usually do. Also, I've been asked to add a specific fabric that matches the bedroom curtains, so it is an added chalenge.

This is what I've got so far:

I can already predict it will be hard work, as all the stars are appliquéed, something I've never tried to do on such a large project, but I figure the end result will be amazing :)

Hello 2012!!

It's been a rocky start for this year, but I'm all better now and ready to kick start this year!
My head is filled with new projects and new ideas and I'm very eager to start :)
